Iron is a mineral essential for a healthy immune system and for its role in energy production. Iron's most important role is in the production of hemoglobin and myoglobin, as well as the oxygenation of red blood cells. Hemoglobin is the carrier of oxygen through the blood, while myoglobin is a form of hemoglobin that is specifically located within the muscle tissue.

Olympian Labs Vegetarian Extreme Iron Assimilator formula contains ferrous succinate iron, folic acid and vitamin B-12 (methylcobalamin). Deficiencies in these three vitamins and minerals may lead to anemia and a deficiency in folic acid is sometimes masked by iron deficiency. Olympian Labs Extreme Vegetarian Iron Assimilator formula also contains vitamin A (Palmitate) and vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for extreme assimilation. Vitamin A improves absorption and also assists the body in using the iron stored within the liver, while studies have shown that vitamin C increases iron's absorption by approximately 30%. Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) is included in this formula to help with absorption of the other ingredients. Olympian Labs uses Vitamin B-12 (methylcobalamin) because it is the only active form available. Most formulas contain cyanocobalamin, which must be converted by the body into methyl or adenosyl by removing the cyanide molecule.
