Vitamin K

Vitamin K, a fat-soluble vitamin, has hemostatic activity (helps stop bleeding), and assists in bone metabolism and blood clotting. Vitamin K may also help prevent the build up and hardening of plaque in the arteries, reducing the risk of heart disease. Signs of Vitamin K deficiency may include bruising, gastrointestinal bleeding, menorrhagia, hematuria, and sometimes osteoporosis. Vitamin K supplements may be therapeutic for poor or restricted diets, malabsorption syndromes, osteoporosis, or hypoprothrombinemia (low blood clot factor levels) caused by Vitamin K deficiency.
